Robots Killing People Hall of Fame

T-800 - The Terminator

According to Terminator expert Kyle Reese, "[A terminator] can't be bargained with. It can't be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop, ever, until you are dead." This is one efficient killer robot. Unfortunately, he fails in his mission after being shot multiple times with a shotgun, set on fire, blown up in a fuel tanker explosion, taking multiple blows to the CPU with a lead pipe, split in two by a pipe bomb, and crushed in an industrial metal press. Tough luck, unit T-800.

Pros: Single-minded, ruthless killer.
Cons:
Can be reprogrammed to love humans; bad at multitasking.

Neo Cylons - Battlestar Galactica

Nearly indistinguishable from real humans, the new version of Cylon comes in 12 different models. Model Number 6 (pictured) is a hot babe who can apparently infiltrate the minds of sweaty, weak willed (yet supposedly brilliant) scientist-types. Neo Cylons have super-human abilities and can interface with almost any known computer system and/or software. They are the embodiment of every geek's dreams, except they kill people. In fact, they wiped out 99% of the human race. Come to think of it, that may be a geek dream as well ...

Pros: Effective; Organized; able to effortlessly infiltrate the human race
Cons: Some models are preachy; their emotions make them almost as irritating as real humans

Nexus 6 - Blade Runner

These top-of-the-line bio engineered robotic beings possessed superior strength, agility, and variable intelligence. After staging a bloody off-world mutiny, a team of Nexus 6s come to Earth to confront their makers about their unfortunate 4-year life spans. These discussions typically ended in the violent deaths of the humans involved. Eventually all of these replicants were "retired" by a Blade Runner, but they had a good run.

Pros: Super-human abilities; can pass as humans; enjoys playing cat-and-mouse with human victims
Cons:
Obsessed with emotion, memories and other human accessories

NS 5 Series - I, Robot

Initially created as service robots for the human race, the NS 5 line was turned evil by a particularly nasty "automatic update" delivered from corporate headquarters. These sleek machines looked like Macs, but their hearts were pure Microsoft-esque evil. They reinterpreted the Three Laws to include imposing a curfew on humans and becoming the benevolent dictators of mankind. After the master corporate computer is destroyed, however, they were subject to a recall and immediately shelved.

Pros: Super-human strength; capable of coordinated swarm attacks
Cons:
Glowing red torso is a fairly obvious "tell" to indicate evil

T-1000 Series - Terminator 2

An extremely advanced version of the Terminator series, the T-1000 can morph its liquid metal form to impersonate people and objects. It possesses the same unshakeable determination of the T-800 series (see above), is stronger, and almost indestructible. Unless, of course, you throw it in a vat of molten steel, which John Connor does.

Pros: All the pros of a terminator, plus, it's shiny!
Cons:
Doesn't have that catchy Austrian accent

Gunslinger - Westworld

Gunslinger was an android "actor" in a high-priced amusement park in which guests paid $1,000 to interact with robots in different themed environments. When the robots at the park malfunction, the technicians head for the hills, leaving the humans to be slaughtered by the particularly single-minded robot cowboy. Gunslinger is eventually destroyed after being drenched with acid and set on fire. Yippie-Kay-Ay, indeed.

Pros: Great shot; determined; snappy dresser
Cons:
Bad with stairs

Centurion Cylon - Battlestar Galactica (1978)

Created to serve the reptilian race of the Cylon Alliance, the old Cylons, or "Classic" Cylons, feature silver armor and blaster rifles.

Pros: Shiny; obedient; pretty tough
Cons:
Not very smart; shifty-eyed; bad marksmanship; slow-moving

ED-209 - Robocop

The Enforcement Droid Series 209 was the brainchild of OCP Senior President Dick Jones. Like most projects initiated by corporate executives, it was poorly designed and executed. This resulted in the deaths of several innocent people targeted by the ED-209's arm-mounted machine guns and rocket launchers. It is eventually destroyed by RoboCop - who was not actually a robot cop, but some loser human cop killed in the line of duty and brought back to life as a cyborg. Alas!

Pros: Possesses heavy firepower; features intimidating design
Cons: Bad with stairs; can be "tricked" into self-destruction; graceless

Ash - Alien

An android positioned aboard the spaceship Nostromo as Science Officer, Ash carried out Special Order 937 as instructed by "The Company." In a nutshell, the order was to land on an empty planet, pick up the Alien, and bring it back to The Company - the crew be damned. And they were.

Pros: Looks human; can perform the duties of a typical corporate-level dickhead without requiring a salary or health benefits.
Cons:
Easily decapitated; weapon of choice is rolled up paper

Box - Logan's Run

A large, shiny robot designed to freeze and store food, Box misinterprets his duties somewhat when he murders and freezes the humans who escape the nearby city. He's basically a murderous robot cafeteria worker.

Pros: Smudge-free
Cons:
Kinda boxy; rather stupid; has a silly name
